The main supermarkets in Barcelona are:

Mercadona: it is probably the most popular supermarket chain in Spain. It is known for offering its own brand products, of good quality and at a relatively low price. You will rarely find organic products in Mercadona, but it has the largest stock of products for celiac people.

Bon Preu: “bon preu” means good price in Catalan. This is a brand whose name fits like a glove! Bon Preu distributes all the major retail brands. Bon Preu offers one of the best quality/price ratios in the city.

Consum is halfway between Mercadona and Bon Preu since the different sections are full of both branded products and Consum products. They have good quality in general, but they do not have as much variety as in Mercadona. There are also “Consum charter” franchises, but all supermarkets are not the same: sometimes they are poorly equipped and the variety of products is limited.

Ametller Origen: This fast-growing Catalan chain has more than 120 stores throughout the region. Halfway between a fruit shop and a supermarket, it stands out for its commitment to fresh and local products. A true treasure for lovers of flavor and quality. Their products, very well presented, are more expensive than in other stores, but this extra cost is justified by their excellence and flavor.

Aldi and Lidl: These two German supermarkets are also present in Barcelona and offer quality products at discounted prices. You will also find a selection of organic products.

DIA: They are small supermarkets, with a limited variety, but well located. You can find a good quality price to get out of trouble. OPEN ON SUNDAY!!

Condis: Condis supermarkets  are one of the companies that leads the Spanish ranking of franchises by turnover. This business formula represents more than 50% of the group’s supermarkets and allows them to maintain a very wide territorial presence close to the citizens. There are the largest store models: CondisLife and Condis. And there’s the CondisExpress model of smaller stores that are open 365 days a year. They have a wide variety of branded products and also their own brand and at affordable prices.

Keisy: Keisy Supermarkets is a Catalan family business founded in 1988, with the purpose of providing a complete service in the field of food, cleaning and perfumery, framed in the sector of proximity supermarkets and with the premise of offering top quality products at the best price. For now they have 11 branches in the city of Barcelona and continue to grow.

Practical information

* Many supermarkets in Barcelona offer a free home delivery service if the total purchases exceed a certain amount. Super practical!

* In general, supermarkets are open from Monday to Saturday, from 9am-10am to 9pm-10pm.

* Supercor supermarkets are open every day of the year, 18 hours a day, but prices are higher than in other supermarkets.

* It is difficult to find some products in supermarkets, such as toiletries. There are some, but the variety is very limited. You will have many more options in perfume stores, which have a section dedicated to shower gel, shampoos, creams, etc., or in the Clarel chain stores, which also sell household cleaning products.
