Collateral benefits of moving

We would like to talk a little about issues that, although they are not the main ones when it comes to changing the course of our lives, end up being determining factors in our internal processes.
There are many things that we take for granted when we move, and understandably so. That is why in this article we will pay attention to those details that, although far from the spotlight, end up being key variables when it comes to relocating.

Archeology

Our home is composed of several layers of sedimentation, in the style of geology. There are those objects we deal with on a daily basis, those we deal with from time to time (suitcases for example) and, deeper down, in the unfathomable depths of our homes, there are objects that are part of what we could call the fossil record of our lives.
Moving our homes means dealing with that materialized unconscious that makes up the objects hidden in the depths of our homes. It is a very enriching and therapeutic experience to face that melting pot of past lives we live and to be able to see our history broken down into layers of objects that narrate it in an indirect way.

Burial and mourning

In addition to being able to see ourselves in the mirror of time through this archaeological moment, moving also means making decisions. Now that we have all our objects spread out in front of us, we have to decide which ones will accompany us in the new stage and which ones will be left behind.
Making this decision also means another collateral but very important step for the psychology of the migrant. There are objects that crystallize moments of our life that perhaps were postponed or repressed. The act of having to decide what to take with us also offers us the possibility of closing stages and mourning them accordingly. This process produces a very deep relief and a feeling of acquired lightness that is very therapeutic.

The feedback of mind and things

The spaces we inhabit are the context where we think most of our thoughts. This means that we generate a feedback loop between our psyche and our home. Changing everything around means setting the stage for new cycles of thought, whose feedback loop can escalate to unpredictable places, usually for the better.
A radical change can free our minds from chains that have been weighing us down and consuming much fatigue and potential just in the act of dealing with all that weight.

A new everyday life

Just as our spaces are the fuel of our thoughts, this concept extends to the block, the neighborhood, the city. Relocation means new landscapes, new smells, new climates, new people, and so on.
We don’t know who we can be, the only thing we know is that when that desire to move appears there is a we asking us from an alternative future to make a decision to make it happen.
If that message from the future arrives with force, we have to carry it out. It is incredible what jumping into the void can generate in a person.
